Full 17-minute Battlefield 4 gameplay video released

17
We got the full 17-minute gameplay video of the Battlefield 4 singleplayer campaign, showing the very first mission in the game.

EA has released the very first Battlefield 4 gameplay video. It’s 17 minutes long and showcases the first mission of the singleplayer campaign. The player assumes the role of one the squadmembers, and the missions seem to have been stacked in such order to showcase the game visually, rather than have it make sense plot-wise.

Nevertheless, Battlefield 4 is looking very good at this point. We’re not seeing the huge leap in visual style or ability, so it looks more like Battlefield 3.5. Which isn’t a bad thing — BF3 is an awesome looking game.

Judging by the 17 minutes of singleplayer gameplay, we can’t say we’re that impressed. But maybe that’s because you have to play it rather than watch it in a video. The campaign looks and feels very similar to the BF3 singleplayer campaign, in a sense that it’s bits of actual gameplay sandwiched between quicktime events.

One of the biggest criticisms of the BF3 campaign was that it was too distant from the player and relied heavily on scripted events. It doesn’t look like Battlefield 4 is moving away from that formula. Check out the full video below and let us know what you think:

This is going to be incredible on ps4!? If they both release the same time that would be a dream come true! Looks really similar to Medal of Honor warfighter to me. Just with improved graphics

Absolutely loving the fact that full destruction of buildings (like BFBC2) is back!

If you try to camp in Battlefield 4, you’re gonna have a bad time. >:)

Heavily scripted SP, another M4/M16/M416 gameplay, AutoNoobTube a’la MW3, same crappy reload animation for the primary weapon, QTEs, and that annoying black outline around people is still present.

Doesn’t look any different from BF3. Might as well release it as a bigger DLC rather than a standalone game.

But hey, pre-order and get Premium! Haha, what a joke!

The M-32 “AutoNoobTube” was not in MW3. It was in Body Odor 2. It was also in MOHWF. Why does it matter to you if a gun is in another game. If that’s the case you should be upset over the M4, M16, m249, M40, etc. And you post sounds very familiar to me when I was watching the reveal for MW3.

You are right, I mixed it up with the XM25. That’s the gun in MW3, and the two are very similar in how they operate. If the M32 makes it into BF4’s multiplayer – and why wouldn’t it? – I’m pretty sure it will be abused to the point where Dice will overnerf it until it becomes near useless, and I’m pretty sure several other guns in BF4 will meet the same fate.

As for MW3’s reveal, I can’t comment, because I never watched that. :p

Basically when MW3 was revealed everyone was in an uproar saying it is the exact same game from MW2. Which it wasn’t and I still enjoyed it. I hope BF4 doesn’t have the same fate with all the patches. You saw how slow that reload is on it. In the MP they may not give you enough rounds to do a whole reload! You don’t need to patch it, you just need to control the use of it.

How are they going to limit the rounds? Cut off a few of the barrels? 😛 I can already see the squads spamming the M-32 with a crapload of support guys dropping ammo all over the floor.

I’m sure the consecutive patches will screw everything up as well.

@whatever. You can limit it by only giving the player 10 rounds in total instead of 12 rounds. It’s a six shooter. Perhaps the ammo crates can only supply bullets. Would it be ok to have two resupply crates for BF4? One to resupply bullets. The other to resupply explosives?

Having two types of ammo crates would be pretty pointless. The only thing they could do to try and balance it out is make it so that a player has to wait a longer time between each resupply for the M-32.

Which means they’ll sell the base game for 60€/70€ again, and you can shell out 60€ more for Premium AND pay twice for the one ‘expansion pack’ you get by pre-ordering, should you buy Premium. Same crap they did with BF3.

-The main character in the story is mute. It doesn’t really add to the scene if you cut of someone’s leg and don’t even give a sh*t. Can’t wait for heavy dialog scenes where other people are deciding for you, giving you the realistic feel of.. a video game

-Same character models, animations and sounds… not really that bad as Battlefield is going the same way as Call of Duty now, improving on what’s already there. Hopefully they will add something new though or you may feel like having the same kind of game…

-High probability that the female character is singleplayer only, and as the shown gameplay confirms, only non-playable.. it’s somewhat the same as in BF3, only this time, you can’t “control” the female character but instead you can actually see her (and hear her talk, as you won’t play as her)

-No orchestral music: Probably will be techno-fart-sounds again (listen when the BF-Logo appears at the end: It’s so noice-like that you can’t tell what it’s supposed to sound like)

-The “bloody screen” seems to be more then it was in BF3. It doesn’t show for long, but that could be because of unlimited life-hacks for the purpose of making this gameplay video

-There will be no vehicle animations when you enter or leave a vehicle. The shown material is singleplayer, but you can see him drive a vehicle freely with the AI buddies, which is the same as in Bad Company. The vehicle itself is a russian one, same as in BF3

I’m not as blown away by this as I was for BF3. Battlefield 3 introduced a massive new engine which was stunning to see for the first time. Are you sure BF4 is using FB3? It looks alot like MOHWF which used FB2. It looks too similar to be a whole new engine. BFBC1 to BFBC2 was a big step up, but it was always FB1. So I’m puzzled if they’re using FB3 as a selling point like it was for BF3. It still looks great! But the only thing I don’t like is the recycled character models. The black dude comes from Aftermath. The soldier he knifes is the russian recon. I hope this will change latter on. For now focus on the gameplay, then mix it up a little.
