List of new Battlefield 4 multiplayer details

53
A complete breakdown of all the new multiplayer features and additions showcased at E3.

Battlefield 4 multiplayer listBattlefield 4 was extensively showcased at E3 yesterday, where 64 players participated in matches all day long. And during the live stream of those matches, we got a lot more multiplayer details, such as new features, weapons, vehicles, and more. Above all, China is now confirmed as one of the Battlefield 4 factions. We’ve compiled a list of all the confirmed additions/features/changes added to Battlefield 4:

Infantry gameplay / weapons

  • Pistols: Secondary weapons (pistols) can now be customized with attachments such as flashlights and silences — no more different versions of the same guns as in BF3.
  • Grenades: several types of grenades can now be equipped besides regular explosive grenades. Flashbangs, smoke grenades, and incendiary grenades were spotted.
  • Gadgets: there are two gadget slots and they are shared for all gadgets in the class, meaning that you can fully customize what you want in those two slots.
  • Recon class now features the “motion ball” sensor from Bad Company 2, and the Recon also carries C4 this time.
  • Main weapons can be equipped with two sights — a scope and iron sights.
  • Grips: there are several new weapon grips in the game, such as angled grip, in addition to the fore-grip, etc.
  • Knives: there are different knives in the game, such as a shank knife, the regular Ka-Bar, and more.
  • Knife attacks can be countered/blocked.
  • Suppression is toned down for all weapons except machine guns.
  • Water: players can now shoot while in water, and they can sprint as well. Players can dive underwater as well.
  • Ammo / Med kit: there are two types of ammo and med kits now, the larger ones which constantly heal/resupply, and smaller ones that instantly heal/resupply, but are used up immediately by the soldier.
  • VOIP will be availble on PC in-game.
  • Battlefield 4 squads now include 5 players.
  • Spectator mode is confirmed.
  • Chinese faction confirmed.
  • All-new voice acting for multiplayer characters.
  • Reloading: if you reload a clip before its empty, you lose the bullets in the clip.
  • New weapons confirmed (among others): AT4 rocket launcher, RPG-7, Stinger, M320, Saiga-12K, P90, M4, M416, and Scout Elite.
  • “Perks” are given to squads depending on how well they’re playing.

Vehicles

  • New vehicle disabling feature. It’s now based on where the vehicle is hit.
  • Tires can be shot out, making it harder to steer and operate a vehicle.
  • Battlefield 4 helicopters now get night vision.
  • Chinese Type 99 main battle tank confirmed.
  • Chinese WZ-10 attack helicopter confirmed.

Commander

  • The Battlefield 4 commander doesn’t count towards overall player count, so it’s 64 players + 2 commanders.
  • Mobile Commander can only be played on tablets such as iPad — no phones are supported.
  • Commander can use a mini-screen to see what every soldier on the map is seeing.
  • Commander can give orders to squad leaders, who can accept or refuse the order

but in bf3 we could put silencers and lights on most pistols so what do you mean

    • WOOT FTW
      June 12th, 2013 at 1:21 pm

You are directly customizing your pistol now. Rather than unlocking a whole new weapon, you unlock the attachments.

this is what everyone wanted from bf3 lol, oh and one more thing, one of the guys at DICE confirmed on twitter that losing bullets during reload was a bug

      June 12th, 2013 at 12:05 pm

No, it seems losing bullets when you reload half way is indeed a feature. (as it should be)

In BF1942 if you reload early, you loose all that ammo. They have done it before.

But was soldier in their right mind would throw away a 1/2 used clip??? They wouldn’t, they’d stash it in their pocket for later use….

            June 13th, 2013 at 7:02 am

Too much thinking right there. Losing all the ammo in the clip makes sense. What doesn’t make sense is keeping track of the remaining bullets in a clip for it to be used later when the full clips run out….that just sounds complicated.

Losing bullets in a clip will really reduce the spray and change the game. Being able to save bullets from spare clips….just sounds stupid.

@Ace Killa 08 In the Marine Corps ammo conservation isn’t considered too much thinking its considered smart. We traind for days at a time on retaining mags so if they implamented that in the game I would be for it. And your talking about spraying, wouldn’t haveing a half to mostly spent mag cut down on spraying. That said in real life you wouldn’t reload aft firing off half your mag, then if you got a min you would recycle those left over round into one or mor of your other mags.

            June 21st, 2013 at 11:36 am

Ace Killa 08, Rainbow Six 3 did that exact thing, having partially used magazines come up in the rotation later. For counter terrorism it makes sense to save your magazines. In war/battle, it makes sense to drop them on the ground. Either way, this will either stop tactical reloading or increase the importance of support soldiers.

        June 14th, 2013 at 5:05 am

There was also a cool down period that would refill your ammo. You can argue about support but how often does a random ever throw you an ammo box?

I haven’t even finished reading this and I’m so excited! I’m so glad that there is a big difference in BF4 from BF3. And thank you for giving the C4 back to the recon! Loved causing hidden havoc! Can’t wait!

And yes to losing your ammo when you reload early! Huge habit to break.
Why am I excited for that? Because it makes it more authentic! Glad to see that they are looking at their previous Battlefield games!

Losing the ammo that was in the previous clip is not a normalcore feature, it is a feature specific to hardcore.

it will help every one who hates suppression cause support will be carefull with their ammo

Not so fast. Remember, only a few weapons were in the Alpha and Beta of BF3.

      June 12th, 2013 at 7:31 pm

The M4 and M416 weren’t shown anytime I was watching the stream, neither was the P90. I did however see guns not listed appear in the stream, so I guess not all information you find is accurate.

I’m pretty sure that the reloading thing is only in hardcore, according to the BF4 E3 livestream.

    • ChairmanZhao
      June 12th, 2013 at 2:08 pm

Also, what does it mean by gadgets are shared in a class?

      • mohammad
        June 12th, 2013 at 4:00 pm

for example if you have squad sprint ( running faster ) your squad members will it shared ( run as faster as you ) same thing for squad ammo , squad flak & so on .

          June 13th, 2013 at 1:11 am

          Specialization != Gadgets
I think it means that gadgets are no longer locked to a slot (like 3 and 4), instead you get to select the 2 gadgets that you would like.
In the case of BF3 that would be for instance getting AT mines and the Repair Tool simultaneously or the M320 and the medkit simultaneously.

I hear the same voice actor in E3 multiplayer videos.

All soldiers use the same voice, the announcer (“Objective X taken”) has the same voice, even the new commander uses the same freakin’ voice as in Battlefield 3.

They should give every soldier a different voice, like in Bad Company 2, the commander should get his own voice and the announcer could get a female voice like in Battlefield 2, not because I’m horny but it’s much easier to identify what sort of message you are Hearing… and don’t get me started on how much better it is not having to hear the same guy talking like all the freaking time.

      • Miau
        June 25th, 2013 at 1:44 am

It’s just pre-alpha, I can imagine that new voices will be added later on.

      • Macskeyro
        July 11th, 2013 at 6:17 am

This was really smart, with the female voice commander. It would be a huge diffrence and none-team players would react to the female voice and like get a hint of what going on.
        Smart thinking!

Which classes are getting the ammo and med kits? I hope that’s back to BFBC2 style too.

    • WOOT FTW
      June 12th, 2013 at 2:52 pm

Support and Assault are the classes judging by the recent trailers. In the Siege of Shanghai trailer when the player is blowing out the colume for the tank to come through the floor you can see on the bottem of the sceen the M320 and some package. I don’t know what but those are the two classes.

Tires can be shot out, making it harder to steer and operate a vehicle.

Funny coz i heard one of developers saying that you cant shoot tyres.

    • Adam
      June 12th, 2013 at 6:22 pm

They can’t be shot out, rather they can be blow off, the vehicle keeps on driving but harder to steer and etc.

Dynamic spotting needs to be added to this list! Comms will advise you of enemy units RELATIVE to your location. So awesome.

    June 13th, 2013 at 1:48 am

you forgot dynamic maps like the skyscraper, which means most maps will have a epic levolution like one map has a dam u can blow and flood half the map, female characters are confirmed as well

What do you guys think on switching gadgets between support and assault? By that, I mean having a support class with an LMG and a med kit, or an assault class with an assault rifle and ammo. It’s pretty much bringing bfbc2 classes back but it could add more diversity to soldiers since there’s probably going to be more gadgets among the support and assault classes.

    June 19th, 2013 at 9:59 am

I have been playing COD since the second game. I enjoyed every game and didn’t see the flaws until now. A lot of people say EA sits back and let’s it roll. Sometimes they do, especially Sports. But I won’t buy the next COD as this game not only builds on the franchise that exists, but makes Authenticity a key factor. No doubt that on a new system this game will be tr greatest shooter ever. Officially Converted. Now lets watch the COD nation fail with a New (iteration of the same) engine, graphics that once again lose to BF3 and features that BFBC2 had “new”. I welcome myself to BF!

Loosing bullets while reloading on half empty mags its interesting I believe it will change the dynamics a bit especially on players that like to run and gun, also on how we engage the enemy, I wouldn’t like to loose a gunfight because I run out of bullets! How about increasing bullet damage to go along with this? this will compensate for it, it would not be nice to loose to 2 enemy players because you have to reload while this can be accomplish with a full mag

    • Cobkee
      August 1st, 2013 at 2:43 am

or just add more ammo that you hold

“VOIP will be availble on PC in-game.”

What kind of VoIP? Squad-only is just as useful as nothing for big communitys like ours. In that case DICE can count me out.

  21. mBombz
    August 27th, 2013 at 7:15 am

Here is a no-brainer I bet the geniuses at DICE have overlooked. How about NOT forcing players to stare at their gloves for 10 seconds every time a player dies. The player should go immediately to the configuration screen when you die so you can rethink your equipment while the deploy counter ticks off.

can we hold kits and grenades on pc?

  23. Dooshbeg
    September 9th, 2013 at 10:16 am

Still no night vision capabilities? Sigh…when are they going to get someone who makes these games who actually has been in a real life combat zone. NVG assaults are the most fun thing out there. Make it so you have to upgrade starting at Gen 1 up to Gen3 + with PEQs and IR shit.

  24. Rainbow Dash
    November 19th, 2013 at 10:22 pm

But if they add it so that you loose the half clip of ammo, then every time you reload you would have to do a FULL reload right instead of a half one?, plus I read somewhere that that feature would only be in hardcore witch makes sense,

does anybody know if there is character customization in bf4?
