Battlefield 4 Commander feature confirmed for PS3, Xbox 360

DICE has confirmed that the commander feature will be available on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

One of the big new Battlefield 4 features is the Commander mode. One player per team plays as the commander, where he leads his team in battle and can give orders, send supplies, initiate missile strikes, and more. So far, the Battlefield 4 Commander was only confirmed for the PC and next gen systems — PS4 and Xbox One.

Now DICE has confirmed (via a new interview) that the Commander will be available in current generation consoles, the PS3 and Xbox 360. As with the PC and next-gen platforms, the Commander won’t count towards the overall player count, so current gen will support 24 players + 2 commanders = 26 players overall.

The Commander in Battlefield 4 won’t play with the rest of the team like in previous versions. Instead, he will only have a top-down map view where he can give orders to squads, send supplies, and more. The more control points a team has, the more weapons and tools the Commander has at his disposal. Some of the weapons include Tomahawk missile strike and an AC-130 gunship.

Commanders don’t count towards the overall player count, so Battlefield 4 technically supports 66 players — 33 players per team (with Commander included).

What do you think of the Commander feature so far? Does it make you want to give it a try once the game launches? Let us know in the comments section!

I can’t count how many times I’ve gotten so fed up with it that I drove all the way to our base and set the commander flying with C4

Yoooo! This was by far the most annoying thing in BF2. For the entire match you’d hear the comms getting spammed with that “enemy spotted” shit by the Commander. I am sure it will not happen in BF4

The only way (in BF4) the commander will “spot” an enemy will by UAV or Infantry scan…

Most times in Battlefield 2 I would turn down the the voice volume… But I would take a guess saying that the only way that the commander will spot an enemy will be by scans.

All they need to do is confirm that spectator mode is for next gen consoles not just PC, then I’m happy.

Does the top-down view actually represent the map the players are playing on (ie, will you see buildings collapse, trees damaged, debris etc)

or is a map more like the menu map in the current BF3?

When the skyscraper collapses youll see that change but not trees and stuff. It’ll look like a giant minimap

There is absolutely no way for you to know for sure if the map will show the change seeing as they didn’t show any commander mode footage after that building fell. And what is all the big hubub over spectator mode?

It would be nice if the map would show the change but we just don’t know yet.

Can you imagine sitting there on commander for 1750 tickets and not really playing in the game just wonder how many are prepared to do that lol, thought commander was a bad idea in the first place and still do.
