How to trigger all Battlefield 4 levolution moments on each map

A complete guide to the new BF4 levolution features and how to trigger each of them on the multiplayer maps.

Levolution is just one of many new features Battlefield 4 brings the the series. From small things such as car alarms and elevators, to large scale destruction such as falling towers and flooding maps, levolution adds another great layer on top of the multiplayer gameplay. Read on for the full guide on all Battlefield 4 levolution triggers.

Battlefield 4 Levilution triggers

Each of the ten Battlefield 4 maps have their own Levolution features, some big, some small. We’ve made a comprehensive list of all the Levolution features in each map, and how to trigger them. Enjoy!

Siege of Shanghai

Shanghai Levolution

We’ve seen it plenty of times: the big tower collapsing in Siege of Shanghai. But how do you trigger the collapse? Simple, at the front of the building (facing the water), there are 4 large support columns / pillars. Destroy all four and the building comes down. You can do this with a tank from the water front — it takes two tanks shots to destroy each pillar. Other, minor Battlefield 4 Levolution features on Siege of Shanghai include the security bollards on bridges, which can be brought up to prevent any vehicles from crossing. There are also numerous elevators that give access to rooftops on the map.

Paracel Storm

Paracel Storm Levolution

Lavolution in Paracel Storm isn’t exactly player controlled, but is quite visible: the sunny weather turns into a tropical storm, the map turns darker, the ocean waves increase significantly, and finally, the large destroyer smashes into the island. But if you’re impatient, you can speed up the release of the destroyer — just destroy the windmill / turbine that holds it in place. Of course, once the ship gets going, it will destroy and kill any players who happen to be in its way.

Flood Zone

Battlefield 4 Flood Zone Levolution

Levolution is present big time on Flood Zone. As the name of the map suggests, the map gets flooded if players destroy a large levee. It can be destroyed with C4 explosives and rocket launchers, flooding most of the streets and areas on the map. Players have to move to the rooftops instead, and access to roads gets blocked as they are flooded with water.

Battlefield 4 dawnbreaker Levolution

The Dawnbreaker map features an interesting Levolution element: the urban map has a series of gas pipes underneath, which can be pressurized by players, to a point where they explode. There are two pipe control points at each end of the map, and when both are turned on, the pipes eventually explode. The explosion sends deep cracks across the map, creating cracks in the streets, bringing down bridges, and more. Furthermore, the light on Dawnbreaker changes from dark to light, as the sun comes up during the match.

Golmud Railway

Golmud Levolution

In Golmud Railway, one of the control points is actually a train, and when a team controls that point, the train moves towards their home base, making it easier for them to defend. Another interesting addition to Golmud Railway are strategically placed IED bombs around the roads, which can be detonated with grenades, grenade launchers, rockets. The IEDs look like a bunch of shells bundled together, with wires running to them. You can follow the wires that lead to a detonator, hidden a bit away from the bombs.

Hainan Resort

Hainan Levolution

The Hainan Resort map is centered around a resort hotel in the center of the map. The left and right sides of the tall hotel can be brought down by destroying the ground levels with explosives and rocket launchers. Furthermore, there are oil slicks all around the Hainan Resort level, which can be set on fire and alter pathways for the enemy (and set them on fire as well).

Lancang Dam

Lancang Dam Levolution

Lancang Dam, as its name suggests, features a large dam which can be destroyed by rockets, tank shots, and other explosives. It’s one of the harder Levolution events to trigger, simply because the dam requires a lot of damage before it collapses. There is no water though, only dirt and boulders that come streaming down the map, destroying much of the surrounding area.

Operation Locker

Locker Levolution

In Operation Locker, which is set in a prison, the big guard tower is the central control point. And it can be brought down with explosives. Furthermore, the map features a ton of gates and doors that can be locked to prevent enemy players from entering a particular area, or use a pathway.

Rogue Transmission

Battlefield 4 Rogue Levolution

The Rogue Transmission map in Battlefield 4 features a large radio telescope in the middle. This telescope can be brought down by destroying a series of cables that hold it. There are a total of 10 cables, which can be destroyed with C4, rocket launchers, vehicles, and more. Anyone directly underneath the central control point will be smashed to bits.

Zavod 311

Zavod 311 Levolution

Zavod 311 is centered around a decommissioned tank factory with a giant smoke stack. Players can destroy the smokestack and bring it down by arming a warheard on a laptop in the industrial building. Once armed, a timer ticks down from 3 minutes, where after it will explode, resulting in the toppling over of the smokestack.

Am I the only one who thinks these are generally uneventful? I thought all buildings would be able to be destroyed with an engine name like levolution, this nothing but scripted events which have been around in campaign missions for years…

So not impressed, sort of want my money back, could’ve kept playing BF3 and barely noticed the difference

      November 12th, 2013 at 10:53 am

It is not scripted the players control these features and buildings are still destructible and you might have wanted to do more research before you bought the game

      Really? BF3?
No one will be playing BF3 anymore with this game out.

Seriously?? The levolution in this game is magnificient. Some people literally complain too much on. Bf3 was great but why would you go back to it? Why go from sugar to shit.

    • You are Right
      November 17th, 2013 at 7:18 pm

He is right… this is a scripted event. IT’s scripted when a series of triggers are met and a result happens. The minor destruction of certain buildings faces are also scripted. How do I know this? I’ve attacked nearly every structure in game with high explosives, the vast majority of big buildings do not have destruction, NOT EVEN BROKEN GLASS ON HUGE SKYSCRAPERS, that aren’t the primary set pieces.

Don’t fool yourselves, this is no Red Faction style area destruction. False advertising indeed.

then, there is the bigger fact: the fact that the game STILL crashes like crazy!!! there will still be plenty of people playing BF3! I know I still play both.

      December 10th, 2013 at 12:34 pm

Why bf4 is awsome why don’t you go and make a game where everything gets destroyed and floods happen

        February 18th, 2014 at 4:59 pm

Yeah, but remember Bad Company 2 guys?
You could literally flatten the whole map, and it would still be playable

Loved BF2BC would love to be able to flatten the whole map in BF4 like that

The devs said they could destroy every building but they chose not to from a design standpoint not a hardware limitation.

    • cooldude65
      February 6th, 2014 at 2:55 am

Hardware limitation is only there on those crappy consoles (360,ps3,xbone,ps4) on pc there is no Hardware limitation that is true.

Sadly BF4 isn’t a pc only game. If it was … oh boy … we could have a full SDK for the game. Imagine mods in that engine.

      • Cool dude65 sucks
        March 3rd, 2014 at 7:05 pm

If anything, it’s pcs holding battlefield back. They need to accommodate all graphics cards, all processors, all of that. With consoles it’s just 1. So get of your PC elitist high horse and learn facts.

        • Ben
          April 16th, 2014 at 5:26 pm

not true, ever hear of “minimum specifications”? of course not if you’re so blindly dedicated to consoles. The power of a minimum specs pc on bf4 are higher than any console’s hardware at the moment (with the exception of RAM). True the CPU is slower and has fewer cores, but then there’s a dedicated graphics card required, something consoles don’t really have. they use the (very) powerful CPU do the graphics computing. and that will continue to be true until we all move over to brain implanted gaming hardware or some such.

          • Zach
            April 23rd, 2014 at 4:41 pm

That’s just simply false. All of the major consoles except the Wii have dedicated graphics processors, and the Xbox one and PS4 not only far exceed the minimum spec requirements for the PC version, but also meet the requirements to run the PC version on max settings. Your information isn’t just slightly off, it’s completely wrong without even a HINT of acuracy.

Why can’t we be friends, why can’t we be friends.
Guys just play the game, I happen to own a pf and consoles, and yes there are things the oc is better at, but their are things the consoles are better at as well. Everyone has their own preference.

They need to make a Scuba mask so they can make a Underwater map. *Sunken Aircraft carrier*

they dont need to make them they already have them they just need to add them to multiplayer

    • Ben
      April 16th, 2014 at 5:31 pm

cant really have underwater maps. Yes, a gun will fire underwater, but the chances of the gun not exploding after a few shots is pretty low. besides, the water would slow down the mechanical components so that the automatic weapons wont rechamber a round. as far as repeated shots, you would have to manually work the mechanism every. single. shot. and the bullets would tear themselves apart once they left the chamber because they were meant to fly through air, not water.

Actually, in Arma 3 (which is extremely realistic) they had some kind of special ammo/weapons which you could use underwater. So there’s that.

        • Kurokami
          March 14th, 2015 at 2:37 pm

True, but in Arma, they say the underwater guns IRL are only prototypes, and would only fire a few feet. Not great for gameplay.

Ever heard of an ak47…..or how about glocks. Can fire underwater no prob. Bring harpoon guns etc. Underwater level is totally possible

Bullets only tear when fired into water, not underwater.

Yes game freeze ups are common in BF4, the fact that they do not allow total destruction of everything is true, but when you look at the evolution of the game series itself then we must agree that it is still better than what we had. They actually listen to what consumers have to say just not as fast as what we want to happen and that is the problem. I still have issues with not being able to destroy simple objects and barricades with a tank round but these things are minor compared to playing COD and not being able to kill someone with a headshot because they have a super perk.

      January 26th, 2014 at 10:40 pm

If you remember back in bad company you could destroy every wall of a building and it would remain standing. I always hated that since now instead of having a couple houses to use as a defense point there is just wide open terrain surrounding the capture point. I like the fact that when you do enough damage to most building down they go. Makes it so you still have places to defend from.

        February 24th, 2014 at 6:33 pm

are you kidding me? is the only bad company game you’ve played the first one? because you need to see the destruction in bc2, you can flatten pretty much every building in the game (one map has a building that I haven’t seen been flattened but I’m not sure).

    January 20th, 2014 at 7:58 pm

I like bf4 and all, the levolution is good but the overall destruction isn’t anything like bad company 2. Now that battlefield had true demolition

You forgot the huge explosion on Hainan resort. Put a few rounds thru the middle window of the broken ship (outside the actual playing area) and see the biggest explosion in BF4. You might have to be in the exakt same spot to see the light in the window and make it explode.

Maybe more of an easteregg than “levolution” but still pretty cool:

Seems like there is a tubular smoke stack in Caspian Border at flag D that can be brought down by triggering a laptop in the basement underneath the stack itself at D there are 2 doors that lead down to it.
