DICE has found a fix for the Battlefield 4 “headshot” bug

A fix for the annoying "one hit kill" headshots will be added in the upcoming patch.

Last week we reported an interesting (and very frustrating) bug where a headshot sometime resulted in a one hit kill, sometimes not. It all seemed random, which made everything that much more annoying. You can see a video of the “one hit kill” bug above.

Luckily, DICE has now announced that they have found a fix for the bug, which will be included in a future Battlefield 4 patch. According to DICE, the bullet would deal the damage twice, resulting in a one hit kill.

To fix the problem, a client update is required on each platform (sorry, no server fix here). The new Battlefield 4 patch should be released this week on PC, and later on consoles. It’ll take a bit longer for consoles, as patches have to be certified at Sony and Microsoft first.

DICE is taking the bugs and performance issues very seriously — the entire team at the developer is currently working to fix Battlefield 4.

Sharing is caring!

Great news, I hope they learned the lesson of working with EA and avoid rushing the next BF version.

I laugh at anyone who is bothered by a headshot killing players in one shot. I don’t play regular because the hit damage for that is ridiculously pathetic. Raise your hand if you love hitting infantry with vehicle weapons and watching those players jump away like they were hit by marshmallows or hurtful words.

    People are silly.

I’m okay with you this is a lot better now in hardcore mode because you can one shot kill a guy by a bullet in its foot ! its more easy for the noob and unskilled player to get a kill i’m totally agree !! Or you can learn to aim and go play on the real server !

By the way if you want realism go play arma 3 but i
guess your are a a console player … F!#$!@# Patetic

They should’ve switched to a RO2 type of system long ago. Not based on the amount of HP a player has. How hard is that. There are more than a few out there who have implemented this and it’s working fine if you ask me.

“Luckily, DICE has now announced that they have found a fix for the bug,”

Why are we giving these guys so much leeway AND credit for this?! This is (supposed to be) a AAA title with a $70 (AUD or regional equivalent) price tag, and DICE/EA expect us to be thankful that they are fixing game breaking bugs that should never have been in the game (or stamped out during ALPHA/BETA) in the first place.

Abysmal netcode, headshot bug, etc. How did things regress so far from BF3?

Don’t say it’s due to the new engine. Moving to Frostbite3 would introduce some bugs and perhaps break some features, but FB3 isn’t such a major step up from FB2 that the level of bugs/broken features are acceptable.

Oh and there is no chance in hell this is going to get e-sport status at this rate. Why on earth would anyone want to play a game that has (so far) shown to be so poorly coded as to have a double dmg headshot bug (which occurs randomly) and/or the laughable netcode.

This is all EAs doing; they forced DICE to push the game out so they could get in from of COD:G regardless if it was finished or not. BF3 was nearly as bad at launch and took ~3 months or so before it was finally playable for an extended period of time. It sucks but that’s the new era of all games now, push out half-baked game, patch to hell until next release; rinse and repeat.

What a Joke DICE sells a game that they just rushed out to make money and not care when they should have not rushed the game… the new thing all game makers are doing now is just get the game out, and we will fix that in a upcoming patch, and if that does not work we will patch the patch with a patch…. hey there is all ways a Patch for the Patch for the Patch wait what?

One has to assume this bug isn’t limited to just headshots. That it’s probably leading to duplication of bullets and damage everywhere. The headshot is just the most noticeable place.

The video game industry is a very competitive place. Especially between games of the same genre, they each compete to beat the other and gain the most revenue. Remember these are people’s jobs you’re talking about. The thing about the game industry is that your pay is affected by the amount of copies you sell. In the AAA industry you need to be able to meet deadlines or else you’ll get left in the dust.

Not finishing on time = going into overdrive – longer shifts – overtime = not selling as much as you could = less people getting paid and that equals to lay offs.

Also, DICE are competent developers. Even if they held the game back it would still have issues with netcode and such. DICE has even said that you can’t have perfect netcode in Battlefield it’s impossible. Coding video games is hard because you literally never know what’s going to happen until you release the game into the wild.

Sometimes patches work and sometimes they don’t you never know until you actually release the patch. This is how game development is and how the industry works.

Guys, stop crying about getting killed with one shot in the head!
You ask for a more realistic game every time a new game comes out, right? Well, flash news! Any of those weapons used in this game will blow your head off with only one shot every time in real life so get over it.
If DICE really fixes this, they should should at least leave the one shot kill for snipers as it is. My humble opinion!
