Battlefield 4 is now officially banned in China
Earlier this week we heard how China called Battlefield 4 a “new form of cultural aggression”. Now it seems that the Chinese authorities haven taken a much bigger step and officially banned the game in the country. They’re known for censoring anything that runs against their ideology, so it comes as no surprise that Battlefield 4 is now banned.
The Ministry of Culture in China says that Battlefield 4 is a threat to China’s national security, and is a form of “cultural invasion”.
And while the Chinese have criticized EA and Battlefield 4 for showing China in a bad way, players in the game actually work together with the Chinese military to hunt down a rogue general. In fact, the game’s story centers around how China is trying to clean up military corruption.
So either the Chinese government has not played the game and simply thinks that they’re portrayed as the bad guys, or they have played the game and don’t like the notion clearing up corruption. We’re betting on the first one.
