Battlefield 4 is now officially banned in China

The Chinese have banned BF4, calling it a "threat to national security" and a form of "cultural aggression".

Battlefield 4 banned in China

Earlier this week we heard how China called Battlefield 4 a “new form of cultural aggression”. Now it seems that the Chinese authorities haven taken a much bigger step and officially banned the game in the country. They’re known for censoring anything that runs against their ideology, so it comes as no surprise that Battlefield 4 is now banned.

The Ministry of Culture in China says that Battlefield 4 is a threat to China’s national security, and is a form of “cultural invasion”.

And while the Chinese have criticized EA and Battlefield 4 for showing China in a bad way, players in the game actually work together with the Chinese military to hunt down a rogue general. In fact, the game’s story centers around how China is trying to clean up military corruption.

So either the Chinese government has not played the game and simply thinks that they’re portrayed as the bad guys, or they have played the game and don’t like the notion clearing up corruption. We’re betting on the first one.

Censor is everywhere, for one good reason. The less education you receive (thx pst Bush for the creationism at school by the way), the easiest it is to control the mass. In China as in Europe or US. Information is controlled by private companies which are very friends with our political classes 🙂

Maybe the Chinese government was angry with the fact that the U.S. and Chinese worked together in the game. They do want to be the world’s only superpower. The Chinese government is actually increasing its military might to someday attack the U.S., but our U.S. government just ignores this fact. I feel for the Chinese people and the utter bullshit they have to deal with under a communist government.

Uhh… not everyone wants a democracy you know… funny how democratic nations think they can forcefully spread democracy and that no one else can forcefully spread their own system.

So is BF2 and BF2: Modern Combat banned in China as well? Both games had the Chinese PLA and featured maps based in China. I think they didn’t ban BF2 because the J-10 was a beast in that game lol.

I think China have every right to take a firm action, even if game may implicitly give a bad image of the country in the eyes of youth, especially if game chooses to ignore what bad things other nationalities does and only focus on certain countries.

Take for example US who listens and reads private messages of hundreds of millions of people around the world EVERY DAY. US also throws into jail or hunts citizens who disclose the extent of such violations of human rights of privacy to the public – e g Snowden & Wikileaks…
We have not even started looking at impact of US nuclear attacks on civilian population in Japan, the illegal invasions on Vietnam and Iraq… with such a mix of information I think Chinese authorities would feel the description is balanced and would not complain…maybe.

    • Ars
      December 29th, 2013 at 12:25 pm

The real reason behind this is that they don’t want Chinese people to get strange ideas like overthrowing a government and corrupt general, revolution and end corruption. It is clear that Bf4 is a cultural breach specially where corruption and dictatorship is the norm “culture”. Revolution is a bad idea right?

very true how can u throw someone in jail that did nothing wrong but realease information the american people should have been told or showed. the killing of innocent people taking their children to school gunned down by an apache helicopter is MURDER. a woman in washington gunned down in her car with a baby in backseat by goverment officials MURDER. so why dont they get prosicuted to the fullest for their actions. if i get a murder charge i go to prison for the rest of my life or even death but these people they get away with it obsured. people should open their minds to the possibility that our gov. is in fact corrupt and greedy money hungry. ONE DAY WE THE PEOPLE WILL BE HEARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        January 4th, 2014 at 10:02 pm

Man you guys need to take a chill pill, im not saying to ignore the truth but to blame everything on the government is absurd. And all your claims are so extreme its unbelievable… We have never looked into the Japanese nuclear attacks? gunning people down with Apache helicopters? what are you people smoking? And to think only America is the only country that, every country in the whole world does that and if not more. The reasons why Americans are the ones that complain the most is that we have the most freedom to discover the truth whereas in communist countries you two would be killed and the mass would not know, so you guys should be thankful. The world is not perfect you know…

So true, so true. If Edward snowden was Chinese then he never would have been able to leave the country at all, and the people would never even know who he is, like tiananmen square if you told a Chinese guy about tiananmen square he would call it utter bullsh*t

For all of those that are raging on Dice, leave them out of this. EA Games wanted the game released near CoD’s release date and forced Dice to release an unfinished game. EA also jacked up their own titles like FIFA ’14.

China bann BF4 because they think it shows that they’re bad, MW3 had you chase after a London Underground styled train and then it derailed and the British Government didn’t ban MW3 lol

I could see why they would not want the youth getting the idea of a revolution. But really, CoD: MW2 & MW3 were fighting Russia, Even BF3. And we don’t see Russia bitching and banning it.
