Battlefield 4 runs up to 45% faster with AMD’s Mantle software
A Last week, DICE announced that they delayed the AMD Mantle update to Battlefield 4. Mantle is AMD’s new graphics API that gives developers more a more direct access to the GPU compared to the standard DirectX found on Windows PCs.
AMD previously said that Mantle might give games around 10% improvement in performance when running on the same hardware, but that performance appears to be far greater now.
The company just announced some Mantle games at CES, where they showcased Battlefield 4 running on the new technology. And according to AMD’s presenter in the video above, Battlefield 4 runs up to 45 percent faster in some instances.
That’s an incredible performance with just a software update, and means that many owners of older AMD graphics cards will be able to get much more out of their hardware.
The Battlefield 4 mantle update will be available later this month.

Would have been useful to know what hardware this was running on…
Kaveri A10
R9-290X
3840×2160
I believe it was a kaveri apu and a r9 280x
any news on when more updates for the consoles will be out? instead of being redirected to threads about updates that’s been posted weeks ago?
45% faster to crashing in game and death from too many sniper noobs.
“Death from too many sniper noobs”, funny…That just means these “noobs” have skills if your dying a lot! LOL
I wonder since the PS4 has AMD inside it would it benefit from this update as well? Could they implement it in a patch or not? That would be awesome if this could happen.
For the most part the purpose of Mantle is to bring low-level API functions to PC games. This allows it to achieve a lower overall overhead, similar to consoles (albeit for different reasons). Mantle is NOT for consoles. Mantle is part of the GCN architecture, for which consoles already have an API for accessing.
So, in effect, this gives PC gamers the boost in performance that consoles had from the start. PCs can already run the game faster than consoles without Mantle though so it’s really just an added bonus.
Does this means that I will only have to download the ”Mantle” update and then boost up my graphics by +- 40% and get the same FPS?
If yes, It’s awesome!!
no…..
it means that you will get with the same settings about 45% more FPS, so you can put the game on better settings
that’s what he meant…
He had an Infinite Ammo Trainer in the gameplay haha! But it’s campaign so nobody cares.
