Upcoming Battlefield 4 tweaks include DMRs, Grenades, and more

Developer DICE are looking into several gameplay tweaks, including DMRs, grenades, and Mobile AAs

Battlefield 4 grenadesOver the past month, DICE has mainly focused on getting rid of bugs, glitches, and just generally getting Battlefield 4 stable again. Which means that any weapon and vehicle tweaks had to wait.

Now that DICE main gameplay designer, Alan Kertz, is back from vacation, the developer is starting to look at gameplay balances again. Or at least, they’re now openly talking about any potential upcoming fixes.

Kertz recently tweeted that they’re looking into rebalancing several weapons and vehicles in the game. The list includes DMRs, which players have said are underpowered and the V40 grenades, which players have complained are too spammy.

Kertz also confirmed that they are looking into rebalancing the Mobile AA, which a lot of players have said are overpowered, as some maps simply allow players to sit in the home base with the AA and rake in kills (maps such as Lancang Dam).

The main issue for DICE still remains stability and netcode — the latest patch appears to have brought with it some netcode problems.

      The AA nerf should help with that. But they should bring back Below radar functionality too, in my opinion.

      Attack Helicopters are way to slow and stinger reload time is way to fast!! Snipers need faster bullet speed as well. I cant get one shot kills on hardcore with a sniper!!! WTF is up with that?!?!

    Attack helicopter is underpowered. ^^ Completely agree. The maneuverability is pretty poor as well IMO.

      It is required by law in Sweden to take a 2 week break every 6 months or so. They waited as long as they could until they were forced to take a holiday.

    DMR’s underpowered?! More like OVERpowered, at least in hardcore mode (I only play HC) – look at how many servers are explicitly banning these weapons because it is so easy to spam with SKS or some shit like that…

      I disagree with you. Do you know what a DMR is? It is a form of a sniper rifle. Snipers are supposed to be good at long range, which is where the dmrs lack in power. Now i assume that you are saying that they spam at close range. The dmrs are good in the wrong section. What dice needs to do is make them less powerful at short range and more powerful at medium to long range.

        The DMR in the US Army is nothing more than a M16A4 with a 6x scope on it… and I own 2 SKS rifles, and their power is exactly identical to the AKM that I also own… so go join the Army when u grow up and learn something about guns…

          I find these comments funny. Like some access to the real version makes you an aficionado on the matter. Kind of silly to argue the point of a video game that is balanced to be fun not reality. I don’t see any doctors second guessing shock paddles on someone that was just shot by a machine gun. No paratroopers complaining about how many times a chute can open. There also seems to be an absence of real world welders commenting on the effectiveness of a couple seconds of a blow torch on a helo that just was hit with a heavy shell.

          There are other ways to learn about guns besides signing your life away btw.

        Although i agree with you that DMR’s need to be re-assessed in game because the real issue is all the douche canoes running around using them as 0-15m weapons of absurdity. In real life DMR’s are not sniper rifles. They are intended for a member of a squad to carry in case of the need to engage a target between 300 and 600 ish yards. While the 5.56 is capable at those ranges of dropping a target, its really not ideal nor consistent, and has terrible barrier penetration. DMR’s are almost always 7.62×51 which is capable out to 1000 yards in “true” sniper rifles, but in DMR’s, generally due to shorter barrels, they are intended to be used out to 600 (though many designated marksman will engage past that distance).

        i think lowering the firing rate would solve it better. keep the power level at close and raise the power on longer ranges

    I admit the dmrs are ok..but they kind of fail in close quarters combat or even mid range when your getting surpressed

    No,one listens and it’s making redundant… In bf2 more people listened but these guys are all but gone…

    A side with even a semi decent commander and average players will beat over a team of good players and no commander any day

    Commander is completely redundant.
    EMP/Scan spamfest – which negates any point of infantry carrying silencers, etc.

    Clearly built (read: dumbed down) for tablets. Shit UI, no hotkeys, can’t place proper waypoints/paths on the actual map itself (using touch/mouse). 0% tactical/strategic, 100% spamfest, dumbed down UI bullsh!t.

    In all, another fail on DICE’s part (not EA). DICE came up with that sh!t all on their own. It’s unrelated to publishing pressure, etc. Really disappointing.

      I love how you can get a free 10 points every minute or so by pressing the ‘Evac Order’ just for the sake of doing it, even though the enemy may be not even close to a friendly squad.

    you know what even is very useless ? the jets & barely the attack jets have good advantage the rest are crap make them like bf3 jets & we can’t get over 2 kills in air superiority mode because of the fast time , tickets & jets .

      The jets aren’t bad, especially not the attack jet, 40+ kills a round is pretty average for me and air superiority although the rounds are short still 8-10 kills a round would be my average, people just don’t know how to use them, same as in bf3.

      At least the attack jets should have a decrease of their turn rate, as they currently are equals to stealth jets (but 5x more damaging). Like irl.

    How bout you make to where you can join a damn server first. I literally spent an hour and a half trying to join and when it finally allowed me I was in the match for a minute or two. And no its not shitty internet I have fast internet

      Yes get a client closed down connection
      every 20 mins. have not had a full game since lauch.
      Spent nearly ยฃ1700 on a new pc for this game
      think a lot of people had sim probs
      be interesting to see in a poll of how many the game works for and how many it doesnt.

    How could they even know what needs balancing when the game is still broken. Fix the OHK, World Out of Sync, and Kill trading first. Once this is done then we can truly test the balancing aspects of the game.

    RGO grenades were also mentioned. If anything, they better give them a buff. The RGO grenades do NOT need to be nerfed at all.

    Helicopter is only underpowered for less experienced players. With a proper gunner and enough experience on your hands it’s it becomes almost as deadly as in BF3

    DMR’s underpowered? How about get better aim? AA gun isnt overpowered itself its the Active Radar which ruins it, way too much range. Grenades are only a problem on smaller maps like Metro, and Lockers, just release custom servers and im sure the spam will be ended by “Badmins”. As for anything else I think the weapons and vehicles are fine, my biggest annoyance is crashing, freezing, failed to join servers, error messages, battlefield not starting. In the end I know you will fix it, but sooner rather than later would be better. K THANKS!

    Yes and what about tv missiles hiting right on somebody’s feet and they still get away with 70 % of life. It requires 3 tv missiles to take out a single soldier (they expect you to perform a head shot with a tv missile……..really) the same missile that can take out a transport ground vehicle, while a single mini grenade can eliminate 2 or 3 people at the time…… that is just bullshit.

    Why mess with the mobile aa. The chopper and jet pilots are pissed because they cant fly around and kill infantry all day and have nothing to worry about.

      Most of the time the AA doesn’t leave te homebase. Tanks and ifv can’t destroy the AA if he stays in homebase. That must be fixed. All weapons disabled for AA in safezone/homebase.

    You know something, I’m getting tired of all the pilot whores moaning like bitches about how the infantry ‘spoil thier fun’ with teh new AA weapons we have. Grow some balls…I know you air jockeys like to have it all your own way and rake in teh kills with no deaths but we infantry have had to put up with your whoring since day one of BF2.

    Just because we have finally got the means to make it a bit dangerous for you you cry like little girls.

    And as for the mobile AA being able to fire all teh way back from the base…GOOD! I don’t mind some AA whore sat back there because when he is he is also – inadvertently – guarding the back flag.

    I can’t believe that EA are going to end up relenting to all you air-whores just because you don’t have the skill to make it on the ground. Why don’t you just bugger off to World of Warplanes!

    There isn’t nothing wrong with the Mobile AA gun. It gives more balance to the battlefield. Every map with aircraft should have at least one. For those noops that are complaining about being shot down by one, just get a teammate to fly with you with a repair tool.

    I play BF4 a lot and usually enjoy playing it. However, sometimes the game infuriates the hell out of me. There is so much that needs fixing. Most of these problems have been around since the first version of the game. For example, the Recon Class is a joke. Why? For starters, there isn’t a sniper in the world that can make a long range shot while standing. I could go on and on but I donโ€™t have the time and it would be just a waste of my time. Besides, these problems have be voiced over and over again by many, many others. DICE refuses to listen to player feedback. IMO, Alan Kertz should take a permanent vacation. Heโ€™s done a piss-poor job. Kertz wanting to fix the so-called Mobile AA gun problem epitomizes his incompetence.

    After paying close to $600 to get BF4 up and running on the Xbox 1, this game has failed repeatedly. I play with a battlefield friends type group and enjoyed BF3 greatly, but talking with my group we feel like Dice, Frostbite, EA, and the other companies associated with the production of this game have taken advantage of us only to take our money, go on vacation, and leave us with a game that simply fails. We feel that instead of financial compensation there should be some accommodations that should be made (especially to premium members) to make up for the poor production of this expensive game. We demand that you bring the maps GRAND BAZAR, STRIKE AT KARKAND, and SEIN CROSSING back to the battlefield. If you give two shits about who buys and plays your game you will make this a top priority. We feel that this is the only way, outside of financial restitution, to make up for all of your mistakes.

    The fact that EA/DICE is thinking to rebalance the game’s weapons and vehicles at all without the game being 100% stable to begin with is just something we’ll all regret down the road. That being said, EA/DICE must think this next patch will fix everything else still wrong with the game on a one shot deal without breaking anything they didn’t intend to break. That of course, has always been 1 of the 2 banes DICE has had through their entire history in the industry: their patches fix everything they intend to fix but then break a bunch of material they didn’t intend to break. And now you know why BF games are always on a constant patch cycle.

    Anyhow my message to EA/DICE on balancing only balance weapons and vehicles that are a full out emergency situation and leave everything else til later. Also EA/DICE when it comes to balance changes DO NOT listen to…The Lamerz Community! And that is Lamerz with a “z”. They’ll only make it worse.

    Also being that the term “The Lamerz Community” is an old school term from my gaming youth (I’m 34 now) let me define the term so that no one is confused. A “Lamer” is a member of the community who whines and complains about everything wrong about a game to everyone and thing who might listen until devs start listening and then (at times) make the change just to shut the guy/girl up. A “Lamer” is only in it towards his whining to change a game to exactly how it would suit him and his overall skill in the game and let everyone else suffer.

    My forecast for the balancing patch: It’ll be bigger and more than we think. It’ll affect weapons and attachments and vehicles alike and you’ll like some of the changes but not about say…between 54% and 62% of them. Some of them will even get LevelCap, Matimio and RivalXFactor complaining in separate YouTube videos right after the patch. One of them might even use the Annie Lennox song Why to help describe their thoughts. My say $.30 used here. Out!

    It’s getting pretty old. Listening to so called Gamers complain about FPS games. Everything is always overpowered, underpowered, unbalanced, etc. You can always see which group is complaining about what. Only because of the lack of Skill.

    DMR’s are being complained about because of the the people who like to play Hardcore for one shot kills. Simply, because they lack the skill to play on Normal. Weird, how the players that spray LMG’s and AR’s on Hardcore aren’t mentioned.

    About the v40 Grenades. It’s always the Aggressive jokes complaining about Grenades. No matter what FPS they play. You hear them in the Game, Youtube, Livestream. Everyone’s a s**t player, except them. lol

    As for the Mobile AA. Well, it isn’t hard to figure out who doesn’t like these. All those so called expert players on Aircraft who think they’re godsend. If you can’t camp/whor3 inside an Aircraft and get 20-50 kills. Then, it is unbalanced and underpowered.

    Same thing with Snipers in all FPS games. Run n gun jokes whining that they are overpowered, or shoot to quickly. Crying that they need to be balanced. So, they fire more slowly, have less damage. So, that players who run around, have the more favorable outcome on a Sniper. Which only demonstrates a lack of skill.

    The thing I noticed about all FPS games. They will never be enjoyable anymore. The so called aggressive clowns and campers will always ruin all games. They’re the only one’s who always whine and cry. Let’s not forget how this game has created large aggressive and/or camping groups. Nobody has the skill to do things on their own. I like the teamwork excuse nowadays. lol.

    However, there’s nothing real about a cartoon video game. The forever patch cycle.

    2) bring back Back to Karkand

    DMR’s are underpowered, they were just bf3’s semi auto snipers. Auto aim has been enhanced for a call of duty player. Not a bad game but the auto aim is horrible in every game, i ran forward and as an enemy ran past me it followed him. The only semi sniper is a extension. Bullet speed drop etc and zeroing are either different or annoying. In bf3 i was a scary ass sniper (hopefully the ass is allowed to be used to infer the dominance) in bf4 it has changed erratically. Map design and the bumper locater means locater noobs can spot you faster. Grenades need to be cook enabled cause it is difficult fo kill a target that is not under suppression. Snipers need to retain more damage over short ranges. Planes need to be able to go slower. Ground bombardment is hard when you are traveling too fast. 2 people jets should be added. AA is not overpowered it is rock paper scissors, AA beats attack heli Attack heli beats tank tank beats AA if it is base camping fine, that limits it use and if the person is hitting you at long ranges he is good at what he does with tracking bullet time. Attack heli needs better armaments and more armour with better speeds, however give it a longer reload. Also transport heli guns need to deal more damage and those maps where on side gets a tank and the other a apc or things like that are unfair… In a RHIB i needed to figgt a guy in a fully fledged attack boat… Needless to say that guy only died once in that round. With about 30kills and the death was by a near suicide attempt with a jet ski and C4. Also give more team work points. Such as just by the entire squad being in the same vicinity should give you some type of buff or points. Such as if a medic is around and has a medi box (even on the move) it may decrease the waiting time to be healed. If the scout they may gain a stealth advantage (on of the scouts items should be a ghillie suit). Most people go soli, we should try and make it battlefield. Not cod.
