How the hell can a SNIPER RIFLE…A SNIPER RIFLE have a lower bullet velocity than any assault rifle?! Especially if it’s the best for long range?! WAKE UP, DICE! I love BF3, but sniper rifles in BF3 are pretty under power and you want to nerf them even more? What is this?!

i agree with john 100% there is nothing i love more then hitting a man in the head at around 750 yards but now it seems your going to eventualy cut the effective rang and damge even more wtf do you want us to kill people with rocks c’mon guys your trying to make a farely realistic game then give them the real states i know that at over 900 yards the 7.62 nato round is extreamly deadly and in bf3 it hits like a .22 i want more realism please and give us better scopes seriously im a sniper i love hitting long shots give us flash hiders and silencers so we have a choice i want more variety would love to see a IR scope thats about x16 or x20 with larger caliber rifles to hit tac .50, m200 i mean were not asking you to make them a 1 hit kill but i want to hit them center chest and see the red mist when i hit them i dont want them to just hop off and shit wounds that hinder them fromm performing at 100% would be nice limb damage even better take this into consideration please

Solution: Join hardcore lobbies, its ridiculously fun, and you can conceal yourself better without the maps giving your position away.

John I agree and I hope DICE does something about the snipers. I do love how I shoot at a guy with an assault rifle and I can put dot on him and it has like no drop at 450 meters but with a sniper I gotta aim above him some. WTF really. Also a sniper needs to be more powerful. They are only accurate if you know how to use them but they need longer range capability and silencers do not take out that much bullet drop on a gun. DICE or EA which ever. Fix your guns and their capabilities. If you don’t I bet after some time you’ll use a lot of gamers.

Their is bullet drop on assault rifles, just harder to notice if you have a weaker zoom scope on, that’s all that is

pretty sure it’s referring to rate between rounds. you have to pull the bolt, it’s not fully auto.

Actually this pages information may be wrong at some things. For example, on this page it says that SV98’s velocity is 440 m/s. And at symthic it says it’s 520 m/s. I’m not sure neither which one is right and they may be changed for the beta. Stay tuned and have hope.

You’re an idiot. Just because it’s a sniper doesn’t mean it MUST have some crazy high muzzle velocity. It’s all about the bullet weight:grain ratio.

    • austinO
      December 2nd, 2013 at 9:49 pm

The actual muzzel velocity of the m98b is 940m/s thats over double the velocity of the m98b in bf4. I get that they want to emulate bullet drop at shorter ranges to make it a bit challenging and force us to zero our scopes, but still. its kinda nerfed. and not really congruent at all with the other weapons in the game.

i think the weapons should look like they do in real life as well i think they failed on the appearance of M98B and M40 they look stupid scope is massive on M40 cant see past it takes half the screen M98B has no muzzle break so it looks horrible. instead the JNG-90 has a muzzle break and has absolutely no power.

there is now way that a .50 caliber (M82) rifle has more bullet velocity than this M98B …… its almost double

    • Donovan
      December 22nd, 2013 at 5:04 am

the M98B is a .338 Lapua round…of course the .50 would have more velocity.

        • Jisr
          March 22nd, 2014 at 10:51 am

actually a 338 lapua has a much lighter bullet and is traveling at aproximately 2900 fps and 4700 foot pounds of energy and droping 37 inches at 500 yards a 50 bmg is only 2700 fps but is killing it in energy with just over 13500 foot pounds of energy and droping about 41 inches at 500 yards

If this is a nerf its probably because everybody wants to play as a “sniper” in BF3. They want more class balance. Out of 24 people, 20 play as recon.

I agree on the under powered sniper rifles And I do feel like they need a scope “cover/visor/no glare lense”. Realistically it would be so hard to find the glare unless sun was on them.. But to even the playing field make something like after a certain number of bullets fired, your character would have some type of area on his map that shows about where the sniper is.

Fix the sniper rifles. I am a die hard battlefield guy. But because of this, i am thinking of not even getting bf4. If this does not get fixed, im sticking with bf3.wake up dice. You cant punish recon for playing.

There is a fine line between realism. DICE is not confusing on all realism any more. More on balance, all the true battlefield veterans know what im talking about. You do not want a person running around with a bolt action with a red dot sight and straight pull bolt one hitting everything and everyone in his COD playing path. I wouldnt mind if they added a one hit kill register at a certain distance thought.

450 m/s is less than half its real life muzzle velocity.

I agree with john I shot a gduy point blank in the chest with the m98b and it didn’t kill him really that’s bullshit your telling me if I shot you with that gun that close its NOT going knock you on your ass and kill you before you hit the ground come on! Not to mention shooting some from a long distance like 500 m or longer in a vital like the chest up in real life you would be deader than a doorknob if they don’t make it more realistic I won’t buy it so think about that dice before you lose gamers.

    November 16th, 2013 at 11:24 am

Ok the M98b in real life has a bullet velocity of 940m/s and in BF4 it has half of that what is going on here I would like to see one hit kills all the way out to 100m not 10 or less.

a can (suppressor) does NOT cut the range in half of my .308 in real life so why does it do it on here DICE? did you even look into ballistics? or did you just want not want us to have a totally maxed out precision rifle? FYI the M40 shoots the 7.62… I shot a deer with mine and blew its lungs 30 feet behind it so a point blank shot with ANY .30 cal weapon to the chest WILL drop a human. get some veterans working in DICE.

I don’t know why everyone is saying “under-powered” sure, you don’t always get a kill with 1 shot, but consider that you’re 1/2 way across the map and picking people off is easy enough already. Hainan Resort is a perfect example, just earlier I found a good spot, zeroed in at 200m and got 13 kills in a row, mostly headshots from noobs on the roof.

  16. Chris
    November 26th, 2013 at 10:03 am

I would love it if they made the rifles function with proper velocity and damage. Hitting with someone with a .50 cal sniper rifle will generally kill them even if you hit the arm.

To balance it, add wind and elevation, so it takes actual skill to fire the rifle.

Adjusting the zero should see the character actually adjust the scope turrets. And bipod should be an option to deploy, not just deploy because your near a wall, or prone. I agree with alot of you on all of the small issues the game has with bullet stats, i play hardcore and i must say i never really struggle to find a spot where i can blend in to the scenery and perform 1 shot kills with the M98b until my position is compromised. What i will say however is that i found a enemy player and pulled out my M9 pistol and at point blank range i shot him in the temple, not the helmet the temple. Needless to say it took another 2nd round in the temple to kill him. As well as that, how can a guy that has took two 9mm rounds to the head get patched up and resuscitated by his team member in 2seconds. And continue on like it was water i shot him with. Im a fan of the game but will admit if there trying to make it thee best yet, then you (DICE) need to address the small details that would make the game 5 steps ahead of the competition.

If you guys are looking for something more and more realistic where you have the right velocity, bullet drop, power of certain weapons, and when team mates die and you cant “revive” them. Join the military. Only then will you experience true physics and warfare. This is a video game and thats all it is. This is just for people to play and have friendly competition.
Enjoy the game for what it is. If you just want to hate and never play the game thats fine. It just makes it more enjoyable for us who actually like the game and dont try to take it literal.

thank you, i was getting so mad at reading these comments from all the morons. they are so critical about a game, go get in the front lines yourself, and pick up a real sniper rifle and then talk to me about bullet drop and whatever other shit that pours out of their mouths. dumbasses.

        December 22nd, 2013 at 5:08 am

half of these people that are commenting probably have never actually fired anything other than a BB gun. They wouldnt be able to or even have the know how on to zero a scope, let alone account for bullet drop.

You cant have one shot snipers in BF! It would make recon OP! Image a guy sitting on a rooftop killing your squad with a single mag. Its very satisfying to headshot someone on the other side of the map and you can always hit someone twice. And about the reviving thing, kill the medic first. But I apsolutely love DMRs, they are my favourite guns. Anyway, advice to fellow snipers, get a friend to spot enemies with the binoculars while you take them out. I did that with my friend and its so fun!

    Guys girls,
It’s a game, it’s well balanced, the person that said about snipers owning the game if all velocity s bullet performance was accurate is correct, saying that a bit more realism in the effect of bullets hitting certain body parts would be welcomed by all I think DICE,

The M98B was never used in the US military. Barrett, the manufacture, put in a bid for a high caliber sniper rifle but the US said no since they didn’t need another one other than the M107 Barrett. So yes, they beat themselves out of a bid. On a side note they did change some features of the M98B for the bid.

hey guys I agree that sounds wired aim with a assault rifle hit him at 450 but with a sniper you have to aim above him but maybe on the game if you think of it in real life maybe some sniper rifles bullets slower that others so you have to think about that part

To all you keyboard killers that obviously know everything about firearms, a 50 cal at 500 yds has a velocity of about 2100 fps, where as a 308 at 500 is closer to 2400 fps, and wow what do you know a 556 is about 2800 fps; this is due to the bullet being lighter. Smaller caliber higher velocity so before you all say “higher calibers should mean higher velocities” please read a book, maybe look up ballistic coefficients, terminal ballistics, and reloading.
